Coal railings in Queensland are returning to normal following the rain that accompanied Tropical Cyclone Marcia in the latter part of last week. The Blackwater line was fully reopened yesterday (February 22) at 5pm Queensland time with no speed restrictions in place. However, the Moura system which services Anglo American’s Dawson mine and Cockatoo’s Baralaba mine, west of Gladstone, remains closed. Below-rail operator Aurizon said aerial inspections of the track had been undertaken but road closures had prevented ground inspections of the rail line. Meanwhile, further north, Goonyella rail services have been operating since the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and Hay Point Coal Terminal began inloading operations on Friday, February 20. The Newlands rail system servicing the Abbot Point Coal Terminal remained unaffected by the weather event.
