A prompt cargo of premium Australian mid-vol is said to have traded into Europe at around $115.00/t FOB, via a trader. This is up slightly from a January loading cargo of mid-vol heard traded last week at around $114.50/t FOB direct from the producer, which is understood to be for delivery into India. The cape rate between Queensland and Rotterdam is assessed at around $16.00/t, while the panamax rate is at $14.86/t, according to one shipping broker. This would indicate the latest deal had a delivered price of around $131/t CIF ARA via a cape and around $130/t CIF ARA via a panamax. Spot availability is said to be good via traders, though certain Australian producers are understood to be holding back from offering at current spot levels as they start to focus on the upcoming negotiations for first-quarter supply contracts. Prompt demand remains relatively weak, especially in China, though there are pockets of buying interest in India and Europe.
